I am in between/ Piang, who is crying and/Alvin, who is waving praises/when the preacher asks,/ "What if the book of life is not/a list of names, but a story?"//

I want to be a poem in the book of life.

Janna Schledorn is a poet and teacher in Melbourne, Florida. Her poetry has been published in anthologies and journals including Presence: A Journal of Catholic Poetry, Adanna Literary Journal, Amethyst Review, and Revelry: The Literary Voice of the Gwendolyn Brooks Writers Association.

She is the recipient of the Thomas Burnett Swann Poetry Prize in 2016 from the Gwendolyn Brooks Writers Association of Florida.

 

She is an associate professor at Eastern Florida State College, where she teaches composition and creative writing, and hosts an annual poetry month reading.
